Mithun Chakraborty

Gourang Chakraborty, better known by his stage name Mithun Charkraborty is an indian actor, singer, producer, writer, and entrepreneur. Born on June 16, 1950, Chakraborty made his Bollywood debut in the film Mrigayaa (1976). After playing a few minor roles, his first major success came with the 1978 film Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan. He went on to rise to stardom with the low budget spy movie Surakshaa (1979) directed by Ravikant Nagaich. This film was so successful that many movies starring Chakraborty in the lead were launched. It is argued that Mithun Chakraborty literally ruled Bollywood in the 1980s, with his display of impossible heroics and dialogues as he starred in over 110 releases in this decade alone. In 1982, Chakraborty was thrust in superstardom with his most recognisable leading role in the musical Disco Dancer. This film subsequently skyrocketed Chakraborty’s popularity throughout India and even into Russia. In 1985, his top star status got reconfirmed with the superhit movie Pyar Jhukta Nahin. Although he was so successful throughout his career, his performances never won him any awards in 1986 and 1987 because the filmfare awards were never announced due to technical reasons. This is because Chakraborty always had a high number of releases which sometimes affected the business of his own films. This is most evident in 1989, where he had a record 19 films, including super hits like Ilaaka, Mujrim, Prem Pratigyaand Daata, etc. However, he has and continues to win several awards throughout his career including, Filmfare Awards, and National Film Awards.

The CHDS Radio Dil Se team would like to invite you to listen to our Mithun Chakraborty daily special today from 10 am – 11 am and 5 pm – 6 pm EST.

Sushant Singh Rajput

Born January 21, 1986, Sushant Singh Rajput was a rising bollywood star who got his first acting debut as a mechanic on the soap opera TV series, Pavitra Rishta. At the tender age of 16, the death of his mother left Rajput devastated and was the same year that he moved from the town of his birth, Patna, to Delhi. A mechanical engineer by profession, Rajput had no interest in being an actor. While a student at Delhi Technological University, he enrolled in dance classes. As time went on, Rajput started participating more in theatre and dance, and rarely had time for studies which eventually led him to drop out of university. It was during this time that the idea of acting first came to him as several of his dance peers were interested in pursuing an acting career and were taking Barry John’s drama classes. Within a few months of joining dance and theatre classes, Rajput was selected to join a dance troupe. He went on to perform for several more dance troupes at various highly publicised events. Then in order to get his break into acting Rajput moved to Mumbai. There he was cast in a TV commercial for Nestle Munch, which went on to become popular throughout India. In 2008, he was finally invited by Balaji Telefilms’ casting team and was given a role in the TV series Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil. His subsequent performance in Pavitra Rishta was his break into mainstream Bollywood. He then landed his first major role in the movie Kai Po Che which was a hit and achieved critical and commercial success. His second major hit film was MS Dhoni: The Untold Story which further increased his fame and also went on to achieve critical and commercial success. Over the course of his career, Sushant Singh Rajput was nominated for 9 awards and won 9 others. Sadly, on June 14, 2020 Rajput’s life came to an end as he committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan in his home in Bandra, Mumbai. It is reported that he had been suffering from depression for about six months, however no suicide note has been found.
