Sona Mohapatra

Sona Mohapatra, born June 17 1976, is an Indian singer, music composer and lyricist. Originally from Cuttack, Odisha, Mohapatra is a B. Tech engineering graduate from the College of Engineering and Technology, Bhubaneswar in Instrumentation and Electronics Engineering. Her first ventures in the music industry started with advertising as she briefly worked as a brand manager for brands like Parachute and Mediker amongst others. She came to mainstream prominence with the trendsetting talk show Satyamev Jayate with Amir Khan, in which she frequently appeared as a lead singer and performer. She then went on to become the executive producer of the musical project on the same show. She later went on to release several singles and songs that featured in several movies. One of her most famous songs was for Tata Salt, “Kal Ka Bharat Hai” as well as the campaign for Unilever’s Close Up which has a section of her song “Paas Aao Na.” In 2009, she released the single Diljale and Paas Aao Na in the same year. She also sang the song “Bedardi Raja” in the movie Delhi Belly for Amir Khan Productions. Throughout her career, Sona Mahapatra has not won any awards but has been nominated for a total of six awards including Best Female Playback Singer and Female Vocalist of the Year.
