Kirron Kher

Kirron Kher, born 14 June 1955 is an Indian actress and politician. She was born to Punjabi parents and grew up in Chandigarh. Kirron Kher made her debut in the Bollywood film industry in 1983 in the Punjabi movie Aasra Pyar Da. She later did minor roles in other movies before making it big in the industry in the mid-1990s with the movie Sardari Begum, which bagged her the National Film Award. Some other notable movies Kirron acted in include Devdas, Khamosh Pani, Rang De Basanti and Singh is Kinng. Other than Bollywood, she has also made a name for herself in politics. She is currently a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) and in May 2014, she won the Lok Sabha candidacy from Chandigarh. Regardless of all this success, her career hasn’t been short of much controversy. In 2017, Kirron and her husband, Anupam Kher were accussed of blackmail, for threatening to ruin the career of a Bengali actor. In the same year, she made headlines again for reportedly saying that women should avoid travelling with strangers, after a brutal gang rape in Chandigarh. Despite all of this, she has been very successful in her career and has recently pushed for the making of a film city for Chandigarh, which is proposed to be set up in Sarangpur.

The CHDS – Radio Dil Se Team would like to wish her a very Happy Vaala Birthday! To mark this momentous occasion for such a remarkable personality, we will be having a Kirron Kher special from 10-11am EST and 5-6pm Est.
