Kumar Gaurav

Born July 11, 1965, Kumar Gaurav is an Indian film actor and son of the late actor Ranjendra Kumar. In 1981, he made his film debut opposite fellow debutante actress Vijayta Pandit in Love Story, which was produced by his father who also starred alongside him in the film. This film was very popular and played at the box office for a long period of time. His next film was the 1982 release Teri Kasam with actress Poonam Dhillon. Then in 1984, after two years of dating, he married Namrata Dutt, sister of actor Sanjay Dutt. His acting career continued on with Mahesh Bhatt’s film Janam in 1985. His understated performance in this film is still considered his career’s best. Having produced his earlier films, his father tried to revive his career with the 1993 film Phool which had him paired with the top actress of the time Madhuri Dixit. This film also had his father and father-in-law in supporting roles. With no luck from this film either, he took a long break from acting. During this period, he only completed delayed films which were all released in 1996. He then went on to make a few appearances in some television series before being seen on the big screen again in 2000 with his delayed release, Gang. Since then, his career has been very slow and has been seen very rarely on the big screen. His last known film, Bihaad was released in 2009.

Mukesh

Mukesh Chand Mathur (22 July 1923 – 27 August 1976) was an Indian playback singer popularly known for being the voice of actors Raj Kapoor, Manoj Kumar, Feroz Khan, Sunil Dutt, and Dilip Kumar. Being the sixth in a family of ten children, Mukesh would listen to his sister’s music teacher from the adjoining room. He left school after the 10th grade and worked briefly for the Department of Public Works. He experimented with voice recordings during his employment in Delhi and gradually developed his singing abilities as well as his musical instrumental skills. Mukesh’s voice was first noticed by Motilal, a distant relative, when he sang at his sister’s wedding. Motilal then took him to Mumbai and arranged for singing lessons by Pandit Jagannath Prasad. During this time, he was offered a role as an actor-singer in the Hindi film, Nirdosh. His first song in the film was ‘Dil Hi Bujha Hua Ho To’ as an actor-singer for the film. He got his big break as a playback singer for actor Motilal in 1945 in the film Pehli Nazar. The first song that he sang for this film was ‘Dil Jalta Hai To Jalne De’. Throughout his life, Mukesh was such a fan of singer K. L. Saigal that in his early years of playback singing, he used to imitate his idol. In fact, it is said that when K. L. Saigal first heard Mukesh’s song ‘Dil Jalta Hai To Jalne do” He believed that song was his own and couldn’t recall when he sang it. Later in his career, Mukesh created his own singing style with the help of musical director Naushad Ali. Naushad gave him songs for the film Andaz. Initially though, Mukesh was the ghost voice of Dilip Kumar in this movie. Then, he went on to deliver many hits for Naushad in films like Anokhi Ada, Mela, Andaz, etc. In 1974, Mukesh received the National Film Award for best Male Playback Singer  as well as several Filmfare Awards for songs such as ‘Kai Baar Yuhi Dekha Hai’, ‘Sab Kuch Seekha Humne’, ‘Sabse Bada Naadan Wahi Hai’, etc. In total, Mukesh has sung over 1300 song in his career, before passing away from his worsening heart problem.

Anand Bakshi

Anand Bakshi was a popular Indian poet and lyricist born 21 July 1930 and died on 30 March 2002. He was born in Rawalpindi, Pakistan and migrated to India during the partition of India and Pakistan and settled in Delhi. Bakshi was fond of writing poetry since his youth, however, he did so mostly as a private hobby. After completing his studies, he went to work for the army where he would only get time to write occasionally. He however, continued to write whenever time permitted and simultaneously tried to market his songs in the Mumbai film world. He had originally come to Hindi films to make a name for himself in writing and singing, but ended up becoming more successful in writing lyrics. He got his big break writing songs in a Brij Mohan film titled Bhalaa Aadmi. He wrote a total of four songs for this film. After writing for a few movies from 1956 onwards, he first found success in 1962 with Mehendi Lagi Mere Heath. Bakshi later made another mark for himself writing a song for the 1962 film Kala Samundari. However, he got his real breakthroughs in 1965 with Himalay Ki God Mein, and a huge breakthrough again in 1965 with the super-hit film Jab Jab Phool Khile, starring Shashi Kapoor; and yet again in 1967 with the super-hit movie Milan, starring Sunil Dutt. These six films within a decade of his entry into Bollywood cemented his status as a lyricist of immense calibre. Bakshi went on to become the preferred lyricist by Rajesh Khanna. Throughout his career, he went on to work as a lyricist for over 3500 songs and 638 films. In addition to his songwriting career, he got his first break as a singer in a film directed by Mohan Kumar – Mom Ki Gudiya. The first song he sang was a duet song ‘Baagon Mein Bahaar Aayi Hothon Pe Pukar Aayi’, along with Lata Mangeshkar. He also sang the solo ‘Main Dhoondh Raha Tha Sapnon Mein’ from the same film. He later went on to sing songs in four other films. Later in his life, he suffered from heart and lung disease as the consequence of lifelong smoking, and in March 2002, he caught a bacterial infection during a minor heart surgery. After her parents divorce at a young age, she frequently relocated with her mother and six sisters. Her career started at the age of fourteen when Kaif won a beauty contest in Hawaii, and received her first modelling assignment in a jewellery campaign. She subsequently modeled professionally in London, working for freelance agencies and appearing regularly at London Fashion Week. Then at one of her fashion shows, Kaif attracted the attention of London-based filmmaker Kaizad Gustad. He selected her for a role in the English-Hindi erotic heist film Boom as part of an ensemble cast that included Amitabh Bachchan, Gulshan Grover, Jackie Shroff, Madu Sapre and Padma Lakshmi. While filming the film in India, Kaif received offers for several other films and decided to stay in the country. All the while, Kaif received notice as a model after walking the ramp for Rohit Bal at the India Fashion Week and appeared in the first Kingfisher Calendar. She soon went on to establish a successful modelling career in India after endorsing brands such as Coca-Cola, LG, Fevicol, and Samsung. A lot of anticipation surrounding her Bollywood debut came with the success of Kaif’s career as a model. Her first film, Boom had its first screening at the Cannes Film Festival, and was heavily promoted at the event. However, it came out as a commercial and critical failure. Her performance was also very poorly received due to her poor Hindi and thick British accent. Although kaid was offered a number of modelling assignments, filmmakers were hesitant to cast her because of her poor command in Hindi. Therefore, Kaif began working on her diction through Hindi classes. Now after the failure of her first Bollywood project, Kaif appeared in the TElugu film Malliswari with Daggubati Venkatesh. In the film, she played the title role of a princess forced to flee from her murderous caretakers. Then Kaif’s career prospects changed in 2007, when she appeared in four Bollywood hits. After that her career was at an all-time high between 2009-2014 and then saw more fluctuations from 2015-present time. Regardless of these ups and down throughout her career, Kaif has established herself as one of the most popular and highest-paid actresses in Bollywood. She has also won several awards and been nominated for many more in Bollywood including her nominations for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress, Second best Actress, as well as Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.
